ALBA ROSA VIËTOR COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2023/4
The Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition 2023/24 invites young composers to submit an original work, not exceeding 9 minutes, for sopranino/soprano/alto/tenor or bass recorder, double bass and piano. Composers 35 years of age and under, residing anywhere in the world, are invited to apply.
Chairman of the Jury is Dutch composer Willem Jeths. He will be assisted by English composer Judith Weir, Russian composer Elena Firsova, Dutch composer Mathilde Wantenaar and artistic leader Reinild Mees. Prizes: Alba Rosa Viëtor Prize 2024 €3.000, Audience Prize 2024 €1.000. Further details:

DANTE 700 – INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF SYMPHONIC COMPOSITION
Organised by Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato and Orchestra Filharmonie in Florence (Italy), the project aims to stimulate and promote creative energies in the field of orchestral composition by focusing on the figure and poetry of Dante Alighieri. The score in competition must be inspired by the Divine Comedy, freely drawing inspiration from a figure, an image, a character or a selection of verses. FINZI TRUST INTERNATIONAL COMPOSING COMPETITION
Applicants are invited to compose a choral work in response to Finzi’s Lo, the full and final sacrifice. The competition offers a top prize of £2,500 and the opportunity for the winner to have their work recorded on film with the internationally renowned Choir of Trinity College Cambridge under Dr Stephen Layton MBE. The winning piece will also be considered for publication by Boosey & Hawkes. Applications are welcome from composers at any stage of their career for whom composing is an important part of their musical portfolio. HIGH BARNET CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION
HBCMF are commissioning a new 5–10 minute work for a Pierrot ensemble, to be premiered in the festival in mid-July by the specialist contemporary music ensemble, Mad Song.
To apply: If you are an early-career composer (however defined) send us two pieces by March 24 and our panel will choose someone to commission. The process takes 10 minutes and there’s no fee. The chosen composer will be paid £800 + travel & childcare.

IBLA GRAND PRIZE EUROPEAN COMPETITION FOR COMPOSERS

INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MUSIC – SEARCH FOR NEW MUSIC COMPETITION
The IAWM holds an annual composition competition for women composers called the “Search for New Music by Women Composers”. This international competition includes nine different prize categories ranging from chamber and orchestral works to electro-acoustic media, improvisation, and sound installation. Each prize has its own monetary award. Membership in IAWM is required to enter, but contestants may join at the time of entry. The IAWM also runs a number of other competitions.

IRINO PRIZE INTERNATIONAL COMPOSERS COMPETITION
The Irino Prize is awarded to young composers who explore new directions and demonstrate innovative creativity. The category alternates yearly, and is given for chamber- orchestral works (between 12 and 17 instruments) in even years, and chamber works (with or without electro-acoustic component) in odd years.

POLISH SOCIETY FOR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC
The Polish Society for Contemporary Music runs The Kazimierz Serocki International Composer’s Competition, held every three years. The competition is open to composers of all nationalities without age limit. Submitted works should not have been previously performed or published. Three prizes are awarded and the works are performed at an ISCM concert.

The Prix Ars Electronica is one of the most important yearly prizes in the field of electronic and interactive art, computer animation, digital culture and music. It has been awarded since 1987 by Ars Electronica (Linz Austria).

THE TORU TAKEMITSU COMPOSITION AWARD
The annual Toru Takemitsu Composition Award  is an international composition award based on Toru Takemitsu’s principles of “Prayer, Hope, Peace”, and aims to encourage younger generations of composers who will shape the coming age by creating new musical works. Open to composers of all nationalities, under the age of 35.

V INTERNATIONAL UUNO KLAMI COMPOSITION COMPETITION
The International Uuno Klami Composition Competition, one of the world’s foremost composition competitions, is being held for the fifth time in 2023–2024.The competition is open to citizens of any EU Member State, of a Nordic country, or of Albania, Andorra, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Moldavia, Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom or the Vatican City State (proof of permanent right of residence also accepted). There is no age limit.
